Transformers 3 Update

Posted: 22 Mar 2010 08:23 AM PDT

From his blog, Michael Bay tell us something about TF3

"Transformers 3 has been going very well. We are going to shoot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China. On the talent front, we just locked in Frances McDormand and John Malkovich. Both amazing actors I've always wanted to work with. We also just got Ken Jeong, he is the super funny actor stuck in the trunk from "Hangover" and the Doctor from "Knocked Up."

We start shooting pre-shoots in about one month.

I also was at a Ferrari charity event this week raising money for a hospital being built by Ferrari in Haiti. I announced that night the newest Autobot to join Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia. "

We've assembled a world class panel with different perspectives and now we'd like to invite you to be part of the conversation. The discussion is open to everyone with an interest in the visual effects industry.

Panelists include

Chris deFaria -- Vice President, Warner Bros. Pictures

Jefferey A. Okun -- Visual Effects Society Chair and visual effects supoervisor

Scott Ross -- Co-Founder of Digital Domain & former CEO of Industrial, Light and Magic

Phoenix Fluid Dynamics is a fast and realistic fluid dynamic system. This new development perfectly combines a grid base simulator with an outrageous rendering to completely respond to the 3D artists needs. Besides the usual uniform fluid behavior, Phoenix simulates some additional processes, like pressure decay, thermal radiation cooling , and mass-temperature dependence. This product promises a lot in terms of simulation times and quality of final production and will become a complete solution for simulation of fire, smoke, and haze because of your contribution to the Phoenix beta program.

Become a beta tester and be among the first to experience the capabilities and great features Phoenix has to offer you. Exceptional and unique features are available for the V-Ray for 3ds Max users.

Phoenix Fluid Dynamics Beta Program

Time Frame and Stages

The Phoenix beta program will run for a period of 3 months, starting on the 20th of March 2010. Only approved candidates will be able to gain download access. The software license will be obtained under the condition that all materials produced with it will not be available for commercial use. On a further stage, under the special consideration of the Developers of the product this limitation can be obviated.

Beta Testers Evaluation Requirements

Everyone who would like to participate in the Phoenix Fluid Dynamics Beta program should meet the requirement to reveal his/her own name, company name, position and contact information. The person applying for beta tester has to fill out this personal information as well as short questionnaire. The Phoenix Fluid Dynamics Beta testing program will have its own forum on the Chaos Group website. Everyone who is approved and become a part of the program will gain access to the Phoenix forum and will be able to share opinion and exchange information with other interesting people from the industry. This is one of the ways you can submit bugs, requests for new features and share your works. Personal contact with the developers of the Phoenix is the other option to contribute to the further development of this product. All requests can be addressed to phoenix@chaosgroup.com

Benefits

Throughout the years our experience proved that beta testers as well as contributors on a later stage of the finished product are of an exceptional importance to the success of this product. Knowing and communicating with our beta testers and keeping healthy relationships with them is one of our goals. Your meaningful and valuable feedback is what makes our products trustworthy, competitive and very much oriented to the specific needs of the 3D artists. During the Phoenix beta program we will take an action to provide the active, passionate and devoted beta testers with additional incentives.

Prime Focus wins 2 awards at FICCI BAF Awards 2010 for VFX work on Tum Mile and Chandni Chowk to China.

Posted: 21 Mar 2010 08:35 PM PDT

Prime Focus has been honoured with the 'Special Jury Award' for 'Chandni Chowk to China' (CC2C) and 'VFX Shot of the Year' for 'Tum Mile' at the prestigious FICCI BAF Awards 2010.

Commenting on the achievement, Merzin Tavaria, Chief Creative Director, Prime Focus and VFX supervisor on CC2C and Tum Mile said, "We are extremely honoured to have been associated and to have contributed to the success of CC2C and Tum Mile with our Visual Effects. I would like to thank FICCI BAF and the makers of the film for trusting our creative expertise. In the years to come, we will continue to strive to push the boundaries of visual entertainment."

Prime Focus delivered an array of post services and over 1000 visual effects shots for CC2C. Co-produced by Warner Bros, CC2C is the biggest internationally exposed film in the history of Indian cinema, the first Bollywood film to be distributed by Warner Bros and the first Indian production to be shot in China. The movie was worked on by a team of 150 artists led by VFX Supervisor, Reupal Rawal under the creative supervision of Merzin Tavaria. The project was spread across India in a two month time frame, with shots and sequences being delivered simultaneously by Prime Focus artists at facilities in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Goa.

"CC2C required a lot of planning to achieve the quality of visual effects within the time frame. It feels good to be appreciated for ones effort. On behalf of the entire Prime Focus Team, I would once again like to thank the makers of CC2C for giving us an opportunity to help them bring their creative vision to the big screen." said Reupal Rawal.

Prime Focus team for Tum Mile comprised of 79 creative professionals, led by VFX Supervisor Ritesh (Ricky) Aggarwal under the creative guidance of Merzin Tavaria. Prime Focus recreated the 26/7 Mumbai floods scenario and realistically projected it with effective live-action effects, complete CG shots, compositing, matte painting etc

Commenting on the awards Ritesh Aggarwal said, "We are thrilled to receive not 1 but 2 Awards at this year's FICCI BAF. It was quite a challenge for us to recreate the infamous July 2005 Mumbai floods scenario for Tum Mile. This recognition is a result of the joint effort of the entire Prime Focus team and the makers of Tum Mile."

Apart from 'VFX Shot of the Year' and the 'Special Jury Award', Prime Focus was also nominated under the 'VFX in a Commercial' category for its work on the Coffy Bite commercial.

With one of the largest and most technically advanced visual effects facilities in Asia, Prime Focus provides visual effects and animation services to both domestic and international productions. The Prime Focus Film VFX team in India have been key to some of the biggest films in Bollywood: recent titles include 'Blue', 'Raaz 2', 'Ghajini', 'Wanted' and 'Paa' to name a few.
