3dsmax Environment Modeling #1 Procedural Stone

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 10:00 AM PDT

In this tutorial you will learn how to set up a modeling rig on a sphere object, in order to make it look like a stone.

This technique delivers a very believable result and is absolutely non destructive. Once set up, you can easily modify the results, only by changing the mappingoffsets in the first "cellular" displacement map.

This video is only about the modeling rig, a later tutorial will cover the mapping an texturing for the highpoly, as also an approach to make this a game ready asset.

"A time traveller’s guide for dummies" Challenge

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 09:50 AM PDT

Fom 1 March to 30 June 2010, IT'S ART is holding a contest called "A time traveller's guide for dummies". The concept of this challenge is to illustrate a fake time traveller's guide for dummies by getting inspired with this concept: For more than a decade, time travelling has been allowed for everyone. Although it's secure nowadays, the government wants to produce a little guide for travellers to warn them about annoyances and how to avoid problems. This little guide uses different techniques to describe these situations, 2D pictures, 3D pictures, comics and videos.

Skydome Script

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 02:09 AM PDT

Skydome creates a 3D environment for your After Effects compositions at the touch of a button. The environment then responds to your camera's position, orientation, rotation and lens properties.

With your composition selected, simply run the script. A background composition is created with a default pattern inside. Simply drop an HDRI image or any other material into this composition and it will become the environment for your After Effects comp.

Install this script in the Scripts folder. It does not have a dockable UI.
