Curvy 3D 2.0

Posted: 31 May 2010 10:38 AM PDT

Aartform Curvy 3D is an easy and fast sculpting program for Windows

Feature

Sketch based modelling
- Draw an outline to create a fully rounded 3D model immediately, then draw more outlines to refine the shape.
Curvy 3D Volumetric Merge
Volumetric Merge
- Separate shapes can be merged together to create a continuous skin.
- "Boolean And" and Subtract operators can also be applied to cut into a model.
Curvy 3D Sculpting by Painting
Sculpting by Painting
- Warp brushes add details to the model surface creating bumps and grooves as you paint.
- Includes Inflate, Deflate, Pinch, Smooth and Flatten brushes.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Easy Curve and Mesh editing
- Wigdet move tools let you shape curves and meshes by dragging them with your mouse while the model updates in realtime.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Image Based Sculpting
- New Image Inflate tool takes a silhouette or greyscale image and produces a 3D model using Heightmap, Bubble, Bevel and Extrude styles. Most of the pieces of armour in this screenshot were created from Inflated Images.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Realtime Displacement Maps
- Curvy Maps turn a texture map into 3D displacement of the model's surface. You can paint directly onto the Curvy map to deform the surface, or load an image from disk to distort the object.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Painting in 3D
- Paint on colour, specular, and bumpmaps in either the 3D views or on the 2D textures.
- Use a variety of brush shapes, a dropper tool and a smooth brush to work on texture maps.
- Curvy 3D objects are created with ready made UV maps so you can just select a brush and start painting.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Materials and Lighting
- Curvy Lightmap technology lets you apply materials and lighting together. Choose from plastic, clay or metallic Lightmaps (and many more) or paint your own.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Project Dogwaffle Integration
- Quickly swap textures back and forth from Project Dogwaffle to apply 2D filters and other effects.
- Save the current view as a brush with an alpha channel into Project Dogwaffle.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Speed Sculpting
- Draw Lathes and use Quick Merge All to turn them into a smooth skin ready for sculpting. Curvy 3D is very fast at making an accurate basemesh for high resolution sculpting.
Curvy 3D Sculpting
Exporting
- Export models to 3DS or OBJ to animate and render in other software.

Export textures to edit in your own paint software.

Pose Models using groups or Curvy's new automatic Skinning technology.

Mirror Mesh to make any mesh symmetrical.

UV Front/Back applies a quick UV map to let you paint on the front and back of a model separately.

Curvy 3D is intuitive, playfully artsy, fast, and works well with Project Dogwaffle as well as other painting and animation programs with 3D layers and 3D rendering & animation tools. It lets you create colormaps, bump maps, displacement maps, highlight maps and much more. And on top of it you feel like drawing, not like modeling in 3D. This is not for technical, polygon-focused people who dream in 3D. This is a great tool for 2D minds who want to explore 3D and stick to what they know: 2D curves, profiles, contours and painting. You want this tool to use your drawn brush strokes to create 3D shapes... works well with tablets!

Whether you already use other 3D modeling and animation tools like Bryce or Carrara, or whether you are starting from scratch with 3D and are coming to this new dimension with a 2D artist's mind, this is a companion 3D modeler you don't want to miss.

Just draw it. Try a brush stroke or two, then re-select a curve from your drawn object, and reshape or fine tune it. Make unlimited variants from a base object - in seconds! Your boss says that teapot needs to look the other way, or the monster crab needs more teeth and claws? No problem!

Curvy has a phenomenal smoothing tool to nicely blend transitions between two merged parts. Just click a key (S for Smooth) and see the magic happen in real time.

You can then also further tweak the shapes, even after converting them to meshes. Poke at them, smooth them locally with the brush, or disrupt the surface for a skipey, no-touchie look. Hands-off!

Then, place bones and rig your model, and pose it for the perfect snapshot to integrate into another layer with your imaging program, or save the rigged pose in 3D for further use in 3D layers and other 3D tools and games.

Curvy 3D v2 also adds Image-based sculpting. You load an image with White shapes on black background - it's that easy. The program does the rest, and a few clicks later you have 3D models based on your original sketches and drawings. 3D from 2D, a dream come true, and it's ready for you to paint color, bumpmaps, displacements and highlights.

NVIDIA Demonstrates Streaming 3D Video Using Microsoft Silverlight

Posted: 31 May 2010 10:13 AM PDT

COMPUTEX 2010—TAIPEI—May 31, 2010—NVIDIA today demonstrated 3D video streamed live over the Internet using an NVIDIA® 3D VisionTM PC, Microsoft Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming technology. The demonstration, which streamed the music video "We Are the World" 3D, at a press conference at Computex, comes at a time when consumer interest in seeing 3D movies is at its highest level ever.

"We've been collaborating with Microsoft to enable 3D in an Internet browser so that it's very simple to use," said Phil Eisler, General Manager of 3D Vision technology at NVIDIA. "Just click on a 3D video and it plays in 3D, using the latest 3D Vision Silverlight-based video player and NVIDIA 3D Vision. Internet users can now enjoy 3D video content streamed in high-definition (HD) quality and viewed at full resolution. This is another great benefit of having a 3D PC."

To take advantage of this technology, consumers will need an NVIDIA 3D Vision-based desktop or notebook PC equipped with the latest 3D Vision drivers and the Silverlight browser plug-in. Once these are installed, consumers can then navigate to any Web site hosting 3D Vision-based content.

For content owners, this milestone provides a secure path to distribute and monetize 3D video over the Web with Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming. Movies, trailers, sports and any form of 3D video can now be hosted and streamed over the Internet to a growing market of 3D PCs, most of which ship with Windows 7.

"Customers have a peaked interest in 3D entertainment experiences, and Microsoft is looking forward to working with NVIDIA to bring these experiences to users through their PCs," said Scott Guthrie, corporate vice president of the .NET Developer Division at Microsoft Corp. "Silverlight and IIS Smooth Streaming together deliver the highest quality HD video experiences over the Web and, with NVIDIA 3D Vision, will now provide consumers with a way to watch their favorite movies, sporting events, music videos and more, all in 3D from their own computer."
